  1. good to see that this is up :)

I can already imagine doing awesome things with illusionist’s bracers…

  2. EDIT: My rules observation in this post is WRONG. Check below for the correct ruling and an explanation. Thanks, guys.

Bilo, it should trigger twice because the condition for its triggering will happen two times simultaneously, causing two +1/+1 counter instances to go on the stack. Evolve doesn’t say, “put a +1/+1 counter if the creature that entered the battlefield has a higher power or toughness.” It says, “Whenever a creature with higher power or toughness enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on the evolve creature.” (I’m paraphrasing of course, but Dragon Fodder should trigger it twice if Cloudfin is a 0/1 at the time.)

  3. Some translations:

    Elusive Mutant 1GU (uncommon)
Creature – Fish Mutant (maybe merfolk?)
    0/4
    Unblockable
    Evolve
(translation by someone else on MTG Salvation)

    Biovisionary 1GU (rare)
    Creature – Human Wizard
    2/3
At the beginning of each end step, if you control four or more creatures named Biovisionary, you win the game.
(translation by someone else on MTG Salvation)

    Angel Skirmisher 4WW (rare)
    Creature – Angel
    4/4
At the beginning of each combat phase, choose first strike, vigilance, or lifelink. Creatures you control gain this ability until end of turn.
“A keen mind leads an army as a deft hand leads a sword.”
(Translation by me; note that the word “leads” is führen, which could translate to carry or guide or lead or administrate, etc. So the flavor text could be: “A sharp/keen mind/understanding/intellect guides/leads an army as a deft hand carries/leads/controls a sword.”)

  4. @Planetwalls.

Actually that is exactly what it says :) which is why i asked. Its the same wording as in Bridge from Below, which should mean that a simple stacking of the trigger doesnt suffice. Am I right? Or am I confused? :D

  5. You are right, planetwalls got it wrong : the trigger is ‘translated’ when it comes off the stack, so the second 1/1 does NOT cause the evolve-trigger to go off because the 0/1 allready is a 1/2 at that time ! (read the Daily Magic article about evolve for a more profound explanation)

  6. Looks like you’re right, bilo! I looked elsewhere and found that an intervening clause checks before and after the triggering of the ability. Thanks for pointing that out.

    Also:

High Priest of Repentance – BW (rare)
    Creature – Human Cleric
    1/1
Whenever High Priest of Repentance is dealt damage, you may destroy target nonland permanent.
“I only ask for faith, loyalty, obedience, confidence, and total and absolute devotion.”
    (My translation from the Spanish.)

  7. To clarify : it triggers twice (both 1/1′s make the evolve-trigger happen) but it only resolves one time (because the second became illegal after the first one resolves)

  8. Translation from French by my wife and me:

    Rapid Hybridization U (uncommon)
    Instant
Destroy target creature. It can’t be regenerated. That creature’s controller puts a green 3/3 Lizard Mutant creature onto the battlefield.
“We have fused your [singular formal] vital essence/being witht hat of many other creatures. Do not thank us/You don’t have to thank us.”
    –Speaker Trifon

  9. So a beast within that targets only creatures but for U instead of 2G? I can see this being played in all sort of formats as a way to easily dispose of giant threarts… Also works nice with evolve (they attack with their 2/2 into your 1/1 and 2/2, you destroy the 1/1 for a 3/3 and on the way get a +1/+1 coutner on the 2/2…)

  10. Hmm. I am starting to sense the retread factor with this set. Def not as hot as original Ravinca. Sure, higher power cards, but some of these mechanics are watered down prior ideas– Bloodrush = combatified Channel (or whatever that Kamigawa mechanic was). A few neat things so far. I agree, Evolve looks pretty meh.

  11. Whoops, forgot to translate! I can’t translate Japanese, so here’s the translation from someone on MTG Salvation:

    Signal the Clans RG (uncommon)
    Instant
Search your library for three creature cards and reveal them. If you searched for three cards with different names, choose one at random and put it into your hand. Shuffle the rest into your library.

This is a really weirdly-worded card. The translation could be wrong I suppose, but I think they word it in this way to make sure you don’t do anything like you can do with Gifts Ungiven, where you search for fewer than 4 cards to guarantee certain things end up in your graveyard.

  12. Italian Goblin card says the following (according to my translation from Google translate):

    Goblin Brawler – R2 (uncommon)
    Creature – Goblin Berserker
    2/2
Creatures you control have haste and attack each turn if able.

Kind of a cool, cheap creature for giving everything haste.

  13. That fine-looking Simic Japanese-written gentleman might be the following, according to MTGSalvation:

    Crableg Shark – UG (common)
    Creature – Crab Fish
    2/1
    Flash
    Evolve

  14. I like the evolve mechanic. I see that it can be easily abused with a deck that is already bouncing, shifting, or flicking creatures. Like against Affinity, evoke an ingot chewer then ghostly flicker it and say a 2/2 creature. Stack the effects as ingot, ingot, 2/2. The result is a 3/4 flyer, 3/3 ground pound, two destroyed artifacts and any bonus from the 2/2 creature’s enter battlefield trigger. Cost, R, 2U. Another way would be to cast Attended Knight 2W. This should trigger the 1/1 evolve mechanic resolve before the 2/2 evolve mechanic and you end up with 2/3 flyer, 2/2 FS, and a 1/1. This could be a pretty cool mechanic for pauper at least. It might be “meh” for limited, but has utility in pauper decks.

  15. Here’s my Spanish translation:
    Earthen Assault – RG (uncommon)
    Sorcery
Earthen Assault deals damage to target creature equal to the number of lands you control.

  16. I think the MTG facebook page has English spoilers for at least one of the two cards that don’t here – just a heads-up

  17. Army Loyalist – R (rare)
    Creature – Goblin Soldier
    1/1
    Haste
Battalion — Whenever Army Loyalist and at least two other creatures attack, creatures you control gain first strike and trample until end of turn and can’t be blocked by tokens this turn.

  18. Simic Charm – UG (uncommon)
    Instant
Choose one — Target creature gets +3/+3 until end of turn; or permanents you control gain hexproof until end of turn; or return target creature to its owner’s hand.

  19. Ogre Slumlord – BB3 (R)
    Creature – Ogre Rogue
    3/3
Whenever another nontoken creature you control dies, put a 1/1 black Rat creature token onto the battlefield.
    Rats you control have deathtouch.

  20. Translation on

    Orzhov Amulet – BW (uncommon)
    Instant
Choose one – Return target creature you control and all auras you control attached to it to their owners’ hands; or destroy target creature and you lose life equal to that creature’s toughness; or return target creature card with converted mana cost 1 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.

  21. Aurelia’s Fury + Boros Chaarm + Sphynx’s Revelation = one mighty america deck in the up coming standard.

  22. Molten Primordial – RR5
    Creature – Avatar
    6/4
    Haste
When Molten Primordial enters the battlefield, for each opponent, take control of up to one target creature that player controls until end of turn. Untap those creatures. They have haste until end of turn.

    Ætherize – U3
    Instant
Return all attacking creatures to their owners’ hands.

    Firefist Striker – R1
    Creature – Human Soldier
    2/1
Battalion – Whenever Firefist Striker and at least two other creatures attack, target creature can’t block this turn.

  23. Aetherise -3U
win target game if your opponent is playing Boros

just thougt to pitch in my own translation*

    * I do not speak, read ,or write Spanish

  24. Thespian’s Stage is super-interesting! Also, Glaring Spotlight is going straight in my EDH deck (and maybe into my standard sideboard if I still see Invisible Stalker and friends around).

  25. Am I the only one that thinks Immortal Servitude brings Soul Sisters / Martyr decks up a tier in Modern?
