Hey! Well done on that mull to 4!
Oh! Thanks for reading my question on the video! I actually listened to the pod cast with BWong just after that. I agree….sounds like a lot of extra work!
Great vids, very helpful. Thanks.
Do not play the beta, for obvious reasons, u cant for example even see the cards.
It seems like you never learn.
I for one, like the look of the new UI in the Beta.
Love the commentary an insight you provide in your picks and play. Recent convert from channelfireball, I think you do a better job of explaining your lines of play.
Thanks for the content, and the podcast. Great recent discovery for me.
Will
If I could ‘like’ the above comment, I would.
Dont use the beta, I know Wizards paid you to promote it, but the videos look horrible and as the new interface. Really lame.
Love the video, as usual, and love that you’re using the beta! Makes it a lot easier to see the cards and follow the action. Makes spectating a breeze.
Keep it up, looking forward to the next LR podcast too
Seems lots of people are being paid by Wizards like Alcaste…beta sucks and should be thrashed away. So don’t comment if you are going to support the beta.
Man, I wish I was being paid, I could use the cash. Some people are just stuck in the past, and that’s totally fine. It’s all personal opinion – But there’s no way to deny that the new client looks better for casting/streaming for people who aren’t familiar with the old program. It’s tough to watch things on something that looks like it was released in 1998. There’s no use complaining about it if you’re not going to be constructive, because it’s going to switch over whether you like it or not.
Turn your rage into something useful, and let wizards know how you feel! They do listen to player feedback, after all, and the program is still in development.
Nah dont use the beta. Sucks.
Maybe you are not paid, but Marshall sure is.
wow, you could let a pick 7 disperse pass ? I thought any card was a reason to go into blue for you ?
Those were pretty weak packs. You know you’re in a cripple fight when a mull to 4 wins it.
Great vids as usual Marshall. Just wanted to comment on your take about mill in m14. I agree with you that it’s not viable in 40 card draft unless you open a Jace. However, in 4-pack sealed I believe it is a viable strategy, especially when your pool kind of presents the opportunity, or just plain out forces you into it. Traumatize and a couple tome scours(ideally with archaeomancer and a bunch of card draw) is enough. Sometimes you can open a pool with absurd amounts of removal, and fewer cohesive creature counts than one would like. UB would be the ideal build with a tutor and packed to the gills with 1/1 removal, but I won an event using u/r, and here’s how I did it…
1 tome scour
2 shock
1 essence scatter
1 millstone
1 young pyromancer
3 claustrophobia
1 regathan firecat
1 academy raider
1 chandra’s outrage
1 clone
1 archaeomancer
1 traumatize
1 battle sliver
1 pitchburn devils
Basicly just try and trade off your creatures as best you can, and let the removal and incidental mill do the rest. Fairly easily made the finals and won a close game 3 for the match. Voila
The opposition here was almost laughable. During the course of pack 2 I could see an argument for going into white. Seraph is quite strong, and your only red cards at that point where two rares that you first picked and a shock, which is usually not that great except when all your opponents are playing mono 2-drops for some reason.
Overall weak packs, wish you could have pulled some maulhorns as well, but I did see a really nice BR sac deck going around the table that it seemed nobody ever wanted. I played a deck similar to this one last month and it was great.
I love limited and your drafts are always great. Ever consider doing sealed videos as well?
Hey Marshall – I really appreciate your videos and analysis. I’ve been watching these for a while and feel like my understanding of MTG limited has really improved. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the vids, they’re great as always and full of hinsight. Learnt a bunch already through these and sometimes understand some of the mistakes I do/did.
And I’m also one of the supporters of the beta, I find it cool now that it doesn’t crash anymore frequently
Keep the nice work!
(I wondered the same as Magikot about sealed videos)
And just when I was thinking I’m not going to see an Advocate – Beast play, the last round happened (too bad u only got 1 Advocate there, was rooting for a 2nd one to show up).
Anyway, nice vids and nice to see you out of ur elements once in a while. But nearing the end of M1R2, why not just Enlarge the dragon? It makes it a 12/12 trampler (15/12 if u pump it) with only a 1/3 drake to block it. Ship the whole team and u have lethal, there isn’t any way to get out of that alive. Or am I missing something?
Lastly, I had to ask. I just had to ask. Kezzerdrix (and the likes), we know the Beta is going to happen. So when it does, will you:
1) Stop playing online and play paper only (to “boycott” it)
2) Stop playing MTG altogether
or 3) Switch to beta
Since my computer cannot handle playing in the beta ( Playing 3 turns of momir took 6 minutes last time i tried) i don’t really have a choice until i get a new one.
And my computer is a laptop which is 2,5 years old so its kinda ridicioulus that the beta makes it lag so much.
That sucks dude, I’ve been there. So its answer no.4 then? Raise enough money to get a new laptop. And it doesn’t even have to be a state-of-the-art, gaming laptops, the beta actually runs well on even mediocre ones. Its just that 2,5 years behind the current technology is just too much.
Why can I imagine all the people complaining about the beta standing in a bath robe waving a walking stick at the kids playing on their lawn.
Love the videos.
I started playing MTGO just a month ago or so. I downloaded the beta first but it had some crashing problems, so I downloaded the old client. It was frankly so horrible/borderline unusable that I went back to the beta lived with the crashes. I know people get comfortable in a certain interface, but as someone who is new to both of them the beta is far superior and it isn’t even remotely close.
Sweet draft as per usual, Marshall. I was surprised you didn’t give Fireshrieker any consideration in p1p1. Mindsparker may still be the better pick, but you clearly weren’t excited about it and were looking for something else to take. Fireshrieker fits in just about any deck from what I’ve seen, and in my draft yesterday it was a real MVP.
Marshall and Simon alone are reasons to be a regular at this site.
1 of the best drafters alive right now giving you free content, and you people always have to complain about what client he’s using.
Quit yer derp’n!
Great videos. This is the first time that I’ve come to this site, and color me impressed with your draft. The mull to 4 was inspiring because, most of the time you mulligan down to 4, you feel like you’ve already lost. But, you showed that you can, in fact, win from that position.
I also agreed with your commentary on the random tome scour and traumatize. You only mill if you have Jace. In my own personal experience, once I played Jace, I won the game because my opponents could not get rid of him and I milled them out on the second activation.
