Simon Says is back with another Return to Ravnica draft, and when it comes to mighty rares, this episode doesn’t disappoint. My draft starts with a second booster that is strangely missing a common. Only after recording did I realize that it wasn’t a common after all… I’m sure you can spot the card my neighbor first-picked when you watch the videos!
Simon Says is back with another RTR draft, and I try to catch up with some of the latest limited developments. One observable trend has been the increased appreciation for the auras in Return to Ravnica. To understand the impact these auras have on the battlefield, we take a look at one the fundamental principles of Magic‘s combat mechanic in the opening discussion: the toughness barrier.
For the 30th episode of Simon Says, I recorded the Top 8 draft of one of the popular 64-player Return to Ravnica release event drafts. For those interested to see how I got there, I included a short discussion of my Selesnya deck from the first draft, followed by commentated replays of my first three matches. After you have watched these, join me as I draft for the second time and then face the remaining competition.
Return to Ravnica has been released on MTGO! Playing in one of the earliest 8-4 queues available, I thought I was ready to return to Ravnica: Five guilds. Two colors each. Powerful gold cards. I thought I was ready. I wasn’t.
In this episode, I try to answer the basic questions regarding OOP drafting: why you should do it, and how you should do it. After that, you can follow along as I try to maneuver myself through my third-ever Mirage-Visions-Weatherlight draft. Watch me as I open most-valuable cards, stick to my strategy from the get-go and not once get confused by banding.
Last episode’s non-commented bonus draft was received quite well, so I prepared another one. The draft is quite interesting because it results in a deck which is rather non-conventional without being overly greedy or outright bad. Afterwards, you get to watch my final M13 draft.
Countermagic has been a cornerstone of constructed Magic since the early days, but it also has its applications in Limited. For this episode I prepared a short clip of a previously recorded draft which taught me the potential of cards like Essence Scatter and Negate in M13. The effects of this learning experience are visible throughout the draft and gameplay videos of this episode of Simon Says.
