god storm was soooo open after opening dat lotus :/
ended up with a pretty sweet deck nonetheless
The Sword of Body and Mind gave the Master Protection from Green so Vraska could not Target it.
I believe he used Vraska to destroy your sword as it gave pro-green which prevented him from killing master of the wild hunt. Also, it might have been better to equip the wolf with the sword so that it could survive fighting with a token as master can already block profitably as a 3/3.
Nice deck and great games as always.
I’m curious, but in M3G1 would activating factory post-wrath, equipping sword and hitting for a second time be a viable line? It doesn’t get Jace in play, but having the opponent at four cards in library seems good to me in that spot.
In R3G1 (at 5:08 in the video), can’t you activate Mishra’s Workshop, equip Sword, put him to 4 cards in library, and still suspend Ancestral Visions? Then you play Jace the following turn and he’s basically dead.
Also, at 13:40 in the same game, you say you can’t make Mishra’s Workshop a 3/3 blocker because you don’t have the mana to do so. But can’t you just block and then tap it to use its ability? What do you need the mana for?
Look forward to your videos each week. Keep up the good work!
Noam Chomsky would hate a freaking cashgrab that is the online cube. Boycott it.
Well Marshall, quite the achievement there, I think you might be the most boring cube drafter ever.
“I could play this Jace with my Black Lotus”. Which might be the least exciting thing anyone has ever thought of doing with a Lotus. I normally very much enjoy your drafts and seeing a good ROE walls deck come together in your hands is a thing to behold, but my god this one was just so dull. PAssing that Tangle Wire 7th or 8th in pack one. Shocking.
Why were you SO determined not to take UG dual lands yet so eager to take Red duals? You said yourself that you end up with a plethora of playables in Cube, so why not take some lands to get a more consistent mana base? After all, you’re rockin Counterspell and Jace alongside Kichen Finks and Master of the Wild Hunt. You ended up having to pass Harmonise as a direct consequence, which is a high price to pay for your errors.
loved R3G3, great example of you seeing your opponent’s deck in the earlier games and picking the smart lines to set up victory.
Citation needed on that Chomsky quote.
M2G1 it’s obviously way better to keep up Venser and just bounce whatever he plays and have lethal on board. I think the best thing about your content is your personality and not your magic skills. The latter leaves a lot to be desired, but your approach to the game is great and it’s entertaining to watch.
Solid games and fair deck but it hurts to see you draft almost the same type of decks over and over and over and over again. Especially in cube that is quite boring, since there is so much durdle potential.
M3G1 you had the chance to hit him with the sword using factory putting him to 4 cards in his deck. And you could still suspend Ancestral. The following turn you could put him even more on the clock with Jace’s +2 ability, effectively giving him two turns to win the game.
Marshall, you really got to start reading the cards, its kind of annoying to watch you misunderstand the position. Back in the good ol’ Ryan days, he kept you honest. But Mishra’s factory doesn’t need mana to pump itself, and Lilliana doesn’t draw a card, but puts it on top of the library where it could then be milled away.
I’m not saying you necessarily played those wrong, as you were likely losing game 1 anyway, and you were winning game 2 anyway and keeping up counterspell was fine regardless, but you shouldn’t be making mistakes that could be rectified by simply reading the cards.
Just consider, if your making these mistakes because you’re not familiar enough with the cards, many of your viewers probably also aren’t familiar enough with them, and everyone involved could benefit from you just reading the cards as they become relevant.
Misread the title as Limited Resources Power Cube Winner 2013. After watching you smash all these drafts who am I to argue.
Marshall, why don’t you force yourself to take black or white card the next time you draft.
blocking with micha’s factory is so sneaky when done properly.
Nice.
m1g1, I think you should start with +2 on jace. it is very likely the opponent will have to discard, and also likely that you will end up +2ing at some point.
“Noam Chomsky would hate a freaking cashgrab that is the online cube. Boycott it.”
Is the value that bad? I’ve been going infinite on swiss cube events (all you gotta do is average a 2-1) so I’m not really sure what you’re talking about.
Three substantial misplays with the factory, but cool deck and vids either way. Hoping to see at least one more power cube vid this season
Seriously, I’m not amazing at the game but even I saw some of those misunderstandings you had, like sword giving pro green so it couldn’t be targeted or that you could mill away the card Liliana tutored.
For some reason it seems your plays have become sloppy as of late. I think you should do more LRR stipulation drafts to keep you thinking.
Missed the win game 1. Equip worship put him to 4 cards, leave up remand repeat.
So disappointing to watch you draft like shit because you don’t understand the interactions you’re passing.

See–comments like this. It’s because he’s too simple minded to expand his sphere of Magic understanding beyond his “hurp, i only know how to play aggro/ramp” mindset.

DO YOU GET IT YOU’RE AWEFUL
Hey, Marshall – I like you and I think you are good at Magic. Thanks for the videos. I enjoyed them, as always.
Your friend,
Tony B.
Uh-oh – guess MTGO Academy should oust Marshall from his place on the site in favor of a literally “Anonymous” poster, because he’s just not playing good enough! Except for, you know…
SPOILERS
…winning the draft. What a shitty player Marshall is! JEEZ
aloha Marshall keep posting these drafts, they are fun to watch!
Cube is for fun, guys! Yes, there are a 101 interactions in Cube, so it’s easy to miss one or two here and there. And you can’t complain about anyone’s draft style in Cube – everyone has their favorite cards and everyone has ones they are not ever going to pick – no matter the power level or interactions.
Thanks for the videos, Marshall. Interesting that you were playing Single Elimination this time – probably a bit more consistent with the opponents that Swiss.
I saw a lot of mono-Red open in this iteration of the powered cube. I probably should have been trying to play it more, but it just seems like there is so much more interesting things to do!
Great draft, always cool to watch you do a cube. Don’t listen to the angry posters, I’ve gotten so much better at my game by watching your vids each week.
Keep rocking it out!
all these brave anonymous haters – he only won the draft.
mtgoacademy should adopt the FB method of posting comments to reduce the troll count. great draft marshall. and to all the cube experts – everyone makes mistakes that seem OBVIOUS in hindsight. also, narrating a draft video (while not having like a boring, monotone commentary, and playing/drafting mistake free) is much harder than it seems.
sure, marshall can improve his game and branch out into other archetypes, just like everyone else, but if you ever listen to LR, you know he is a humble dude who is the first to admit his mistakes and oversights.
so to everyone who commented on how shitty and horrible this draft was, please post one of your own perfect draft videos, so we can praise your awesome, mistake-free drafting and game-play.
^ ^ What Rick said. Love the vids Marshall, always a pleasure to watch.
Round 3: Mishra’s Factory is always 3/3 on the D(efense)! It doesn’t take extra mana. Just declare blockers, then tap the factory targeting itself. Makes me so sad.
