Sweet deck!
Awesome deck, had fun watching and no crashes this time which is great.
Way to go getting the Angelic Accord deck together, funny that you mentioned it in your last podcast and Limited information. You were reticent at first about main boarding Blood Bairn and I was urging my computer to have you keep it in. The versatility of an on board sac outlet never fails to amaze me. I have been going deep on black with Dark Prophecy, Tenacious Dead, and Cauldron/Bairn and having a lot of success. As always thanks for the content and keep up the good work.
Nice deck!
Could you get a higher resolution from your computer? The beta would definitely benefit from that.
I used to watch every draft u did, but i havent watched since u started using the beta. Boycott that awfulness.
I agree with kezzerdrix…Beta is horrible, and stopped viewing the videos as well.
This was similar to the sealed deck I played at the prerelease. I didn’t get trading post or as many child of nights but I scored two Blightcasters, 2 pacifisms, and 2 mark of the vampire with sanguine bond and angelic accord. Throwing out a bunch of -2/-2s, the casters did a great job of keeping the board clear until I could combo off. Congregated for 12 one match.
Guys, what Marshall says it’s correct. The beta is coming as the main client very soon, and boycotting videos is pointless, unless you plan to quit MTGO entirely when it happens. If that is the case, you should probably just quit cold turkey now and stop coming here to complain.
man that was the best draft video ive seen from this set. Truly living the dream when that trading post was past to you i was cheering. thanks for the great content and i really hope that the beta has had the crash issues fixed my only complaint about the thing was crashes. cheers marshal keep up the great work you do sir!!
Sweet! I’ve pulled of Angelic Accord – Path of Bravery combo once, it was nice but wasn’t that great cause u’ll always need at least 4 attacking creatures. And I’ve always wanted to try out Sanguine Bond in a draft, but hadn’t had the chance. So thanks for showing me how great it can perform.
And to kezzerdrix & matt. U do realize that refusing to watch an MTGO video does nothing for ur goal to boycott the beta, right? And that, it WILL hit sometime soon and ur boycotting won’t do anything about it, right? And that u will eventually have to choose between using it or stop playing online altogether, right? Or is it just wishful thinking, fighting-till-the-last-drop sort of thing?
Great draft! Lots of fun to watch.
One suggestion, from m2g1… when you have a Celestial Flare in hand and your opponent doesn’t play a two drop, don’t lead off with a second Plains. It’s like saying straight out to your opponent, “I have a Celestial Flare in my hand.” (especially if your third land is a non-Plains) The small chance of hitting a haste guy doesn’t seem worth it. Maybe if it were a second or third game and my opponent had already played some haste guys in the first game I might, but with no other information I don’t like to telegraph my hand that much.
I second what Chris O. said. What’s your issue with the beta? The crashes? Looks like that’s been fixed. Since you didn’t watch the videos, you weren’t able to see that, though. It also just bugs me anyway when someone’s like, “Oh, I saw PxPx and stopped watching.” or “I saw you were on the beta and stopped watching.” Really? You’re that closed-minded? When someone makes a pick I wouldn’t have, I’m actually more interested to see how it works out and to see if there’s maybe some synergy I hadn’t though of. Anyway, I’ll get off my soapbox now.
Great draft. I’ve been toying with an Accord deck in constructed for fun, but it’s nice to see how effective it can be in limited when the pieces fall in your lap ;). I never have that kind of card luck when I play limited events. Thanks for sticking with the Beta client. I’ve been using it for months and it’s SO much better than v3. I really don’t understand what the haters gripe about. Every time I see the v3 client in action now, I wonder if it’s still the ’90s. Seriously, v3 looks like a child made it on an old Prodigy fan page. It’s THAT dated. They will have to use it, or as others have said, stop playing. Thanks again for another great video.
Sweet draft video. I have been waiting a looooong time for someone to draft the Accord deck on camera.
And way to show off the beta. It is so helpful watching the subtle interface tech.
Is it just me or is there no sound for the 3rd round?
I feel like Marshall doesn’t know that Trading Post can make Goats…because that first round was a lot more involved than it needed to be. Just make goats and all problems become trivial.
And by doesn’t know I mean forgot, because obviously he knows.
Finally… FINALLY a draft video that doesn’t bore the hell out of me, with one-tic-rare-picking or safetybeltpicks
Hey Marshall, thanks for the video. My take away is that Accord is legit, Bond is not.
Hurts to see you cut Mark of the Vampire instead of Blood Bairn.
The Sanguine Bond in that deck was just gravy. If you have ever seen Bond paired with 2 mark of the vampires, a corrupt or two, and then the lifelink creatures, you haven’t lived yet! It is exhort on steroids!
Great videos, Marshall. Thanks for making the switch to beta – keep trying to use it myself after every update, but I just go running from it on the first crash. Hopefully they’ll get that fixed.
So this site has just been swarmed by wizards employees and/or people hired by wizards to promote the awful beta?
Damn – kezzerdrix has figured us out! We never suspected a 14 year old would have such skills!
“Just make goats and all problems become trivial.” — Colossus
Are you my grandfather? This is what my grandpa told me when I was younger.
M3G2, I feel like you thought away the game because of your mull to 5. When you drew the Child of Night, you should have played the Child. Him having Corrupt was the only way you lose, and that was unfortunately what happened.
Let’s look at the two lines of play:
1) Accord first creates the situation we saw. Next turn, you would have played Child and Congregate, and would win on the back of a steady stream of angels plus life gain.
2) Child first allows you to keep sac-gain 4 life in the event of Corrupt. Next turn, you can still drop the Accord and sac the Child (if you weren’t dead) and start the stream of angels. Once you have Accord online, your chance of winning goes up dramatically. This line is almost the same as your other line, but it protects you from the only thing that could kill you.
When sideboarding after R2 G1 you clicked on the swamp and then also clicked on the “add to deck” button, effectively adding 2 swamps to your deck and bringing it up to 41 cards with 19 lands. Tricky tricky… Nice deck, insanely rewarded in the middle of pack 3. I enjoyed it very much.
M2G2 you added 2 swamps to your deck instead of 1
Cool deck; I was really glad to see the Angelic Accord deck go off so well. It’s something a friend of mind tried to get working at his first ever draft. It didn’t go so well for him so I was glad to see the strategy work.
Also, my two bits: I’m glad you’re using the Beta for your videos. I’ve been trying to use it more myself and I’m glad the crashing seems to be stopping.
I think the beta is a bit crappy too, to be honest, and personally I don’t use it yet because I dislike it… but whining about it at people who are making free video content for your entertainment is pointless and rude. Marshall not using the beta wouldn’t stop the fact that the new client is coming; it is coming whether any of us like it or not. The most constructive thing to do is to use it/try to generate feedback to make it better.
i Stop Make Watching This P1P1 Bad Pick’s!!!!!!!!!
In match 3 game 3, when all you have are lands left in hand I really think you should start to play them out. You won’t need more than one left in hand for a topdecked trading post and you need 8 land for tutor + congregate, which should end the game if drawn. At 7 you’d have to get cauldron, which might be enough to get there, but maybe not.
Sweet deck! Thanks for the videos. I’m watching more consistently again because you use the beta. It’s simply “prettier.”
Just wanted to say thanks for the great draft video. Was really good to watch a combo deck come together. Much more entertaining to watch than a more ‘typical’ deck.
Having only started playing recently (in the last 12 months), I have no problem with the beta client – I can’t see what all the fuss is about (it’s much nicer looking for starters) – and I haven’t had it crash on me for ages…
I enjoyed the match videos, but one thing really soured the draft portion for me. The description of this weeks stream was a total spoiler. It was really difficult to think about the picks “correctly” given I knew the deck you were going to end up in. Especially when you end up going deep, can you avoid spoiling the draft portion? In my opinion, I’d think it best to not describe it at all, or at least have a button to click to see the description.
Sweet deck Marshall. Thanks for sharing as usual. I am definitely glad that you went with a (somewhat) gimmicky BW life gain package here, considering that you tend to strongly dislike game plans like that. The deck performed well, and it seemed like you had fun playing it. This kind of enforces the idea that cards often deemed “umplayable” and those that “don’t do anything” can actually perform if the deck is constructed well. I am glad that you kept an open mind here, when it is clear that you prefer more consistent builds. I’m sure you are already aware that the MTG community appreciates your contributions, but I feel that I must second that notion. Please keep it up.
Really nice deck Marshall, you did really well I would had taken the diabolic tutor on the first chance you had since it’s so important to the deck, serving as any of the missing pieces, it still went well for you since you ended up picking one later, but I would not risk to try to get one later on that spot. Regarding the version of mtgo that you’re using I think you should stay with this one. It seems that the software is stable now, at least it went fine this time, if it’s running smoothly then stay with it since the design is so much more appealing, and there are a couple of new features that seem usefull and can improve your game experience and our watching experience as well.
Keep them coming champ
Nice one, Marshall. I also noticed that you added two swamps during sideboarding, which is unfortunate.
I have two requests for you:
1. Keep using the beta. It’s all I’ve ever used, and v.3 just looks terrible. Since you know people at WOTC, your input when you encounter problems will probably be taken more seriously, and therefore help all of us out.
2. Draft this mono-blue deck everyone is talking about – you know, with your favorite Elixir and Opportunity. I’ve tried to get it twice: once got cut pretty hard from blue and had to switch strategies; the second time I just ended up with a control-y long game with little threats if I didn’t draw my Air Servant. Please show us how it’s done.
As always, thank you so much for all of your contributions.
I really like the comparison to Pack Rat.
Yeah, this insane combo I put together by playing do-nothing enchantments is… almost as good as this two-drop!
If all you’ve ever used is the beta, then you’re a total n00b and your opinion regarding current client vs beta isn’t valid at all.
Good point.
First of all – awesome deck. A couple of minor points though:
- There were a couple of times where you played lands you had no reason to play which you could have held for trading post, and then the last game where playing lands might have been an option to play for more outs as mentioned in a comment before
- I feel like you could have played more aggressively in some games, you played very conservatively – it worked out, but you could have won some games earlier
- Realise that Celestial Flare can hit blockers – there were cases where you were like “I don’t want to trade so i won’t attack, if he attacks me i’ll celestial flare”. In these cases you could just attack, if he blocks celestial flare – that let’s you get in damage if he doesn’t block and is just the same as the other line if he does
- In one game you bluffed celestial flare one turn, even mentioning it, then the next turn played Diabolic Tutor keeping Swamp + Plains up even though you could have kept 2 Plains up
I think the last cut form your deck was actually the congregate not mark of the vampire but its close and i definitely think you should have swapped them when your not too afraid of getting blown out with mark it dose almost every thing congregate dose with either enchantment while the ceiling is a bit lower than fireball the floor is about the same i just feel what it will usually do will be more powerful and getting back mark with auramancer tips the balance for me.
Yes…by not watching Marshall’s draft videos when he uses the Beta you are totally hurting WotC and they’re going to entirely re-think their entire MTGO beta release!
Or not.
You’re just not watching something you enjoyed, not giving views to a person you like…because he’s trying to keep up with the times…Beta will be the ONLY thing soon enough, and it’s not like you’re going to stop playing magic because of it.
So you’re only punishing yourself…and you seem pretty silly.
Why the last couple weeks will none of the MTGO videos play on my iPhone.
Nobody cares about your iPhone. That’s what you get for buying $$$ garbage from Apple.
