MTGO Compensation Form
If a game crashes or you lose because of a system or card bug, request compensation with this form.
Oh boy, round two was painful. I just kept screaming RTFC in my mind. Read Glamer Spinners, you could have moved the torture over to the Cohort and then traded to kill the torture. You get to keep Redcap and Scar in hand (would have been nice on that mimic). Then, when you lost the Redcap, you could have saved it on the second activation. Then next game he double blocks your wither guy and you kill Odious Trow, when the Restless Apparition has Persist and you have only fliers in hand. With a monster like the Banshee in his deck, it would have been hard, but you really didn’t help yourself out. I understand it isn’t your strongest format, but not knowing what the cards in your hand and on the battlefield do is inexcusable.
That said, thank you very much for doing an older set. There aren’t a lot of these videos around and every one is more interesting than a thousand Gatecrash drafts.
Great draft, really enjoyed it. Was a little painful to see you be confused about how persist works, becuase I think you would have won the game if you just saved the 1/3 blue flier thing. Still, that’s the price of being unfamiliar with the card effects in a format.
Great fun!
Yep, great content, bit painfull round 2 but you are a good sport as always, that so important. You realy know how make quality content.
Very exited to draft and watchyour dragon’s maze drafts. Perhaps even a sealed or two?
Hello Marshall,
Nice videos again. This format proves how important it is to do your homework before the draft. The common strategy in this format is to try to keep as close to mono color as possible. Red, red/black, and red/green in the first 2 packs and then red, red/blue, and red/white in eventide. Usually the drafter only branches out into a second color if they open or get passed a bomb out of the main color. The 3 mana uncommon’s are also really good to pick up on color. Maybe you can draft this again for next week, but I imagine I’ll be happy to see you cube draft again.
Rocky 17, inexcusable!?! That’s a bit harsh. These retro-drafts are mostly for fun. I know for one if I play one, I am not going to do a ton of research on a set I have never played before just to be able to play well. This time around I have decided to forego the older draft sets (just don’t have time to learn two new sets). I will have fun playing Cube, but even then I will be like Marshall says – just playing them more fun for the fun factor, thus playing them Swiss.
There is a lot going on in the MGT world right now, so I know Marshall and the LRR guys and Simon have a lot more things to do then become experts in older draft sets just so they can “perform well” for you on MTGOAcademy.
I for one am reading and re-reading Dragon’s Maze cards trying to be as ready as possible.
I’m not saying that he should know every card, strategy or archetype. It’s cool if you get blown out by an instant you did not know or a rare you didn’t see, but you should know what your own cards do and what your opponent’s cards do if they are in front of you on the battlefield. For a person that does Event coverage, yes, it is inexcusable and embarrassing to watch.

Oh, Marshall . . . you crack me up so much
“Take the Overbeing of Myth? Oh well, YOLO!” lol
Casting Overbeing of Myth as your last card is not a very good play, Marshall…
