Nice games. I’m not really that familiar with modern… could a deck like this be competitive in the format? Or do you think these wins were one-offs…
A couple of the videos didn’t work for me for some reason (pretty sure this is my network’s fault), so maybe you mentioned this, but did you consider running lightning axe over bolt?
Thanks for the comments everyone. I do think it is a real contender in Modern, depending on the metagame. Tempo twin seems like an unwinable match up and I don’t know what could fix that. And to NoTeef, I did consider Lightning Axe but I didn’t get a chance to try it out. But I have had situations where the last damage did come form a Bolt.
Nice videos, really liking the deck (I already knew about Dredgevine in theory, but seeing it “live” is still awesome).
I think the deck is currently not/barely viable (“tier 2″ or “tier 2,x”, if you like that kind of terminology) because Anger of the Gods sees so much play and is such an excellent hoser against Dredgevine. (This is only (likely) true for big paper Magic events, however, like PTQs, GPs etc.)
This doesn’t have to be permanent, though, since the reason Anger sees so much play is because of the resurgance of Zoo (after Wild Nacatl got unbanned) and because Melira Pod is currently considered “the deck to beat”. If this changes – and it will eventually, the metagame is constantly in flux – then Anger of the Gods will see less play and Dredgevine will have an easier time again.
@ Ryan: What people have recently said about Zoo (“If you want to beat Zoo, you will beat Zoo.”) is basically true for every Modern deck, including the Twin variants.
For this deck, I would be looking at Combust, Dismember, Torpor Orb or Damping Matrix to take down Twin (Combust is the most potent choice, Dismember and Torpor Orb are the ones that are the most universally useful).
Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work !
