  1. This deck blows in the name of synergy! I am disappointed. Now insert your 5 paragraphs of butthurt here.______

  2. I like what you’re trying to do, but in these two games you showed, the deck displayed no degeneracy and did not take over the game. I assume this is just variance, since we haven’t really seen the deck do what it was supposed to do; proliferate.

  3. I take it back. I played like 10 games with it and won 8 of them. I retract my former assiness.

  4. Just reading these. This isn’t the best deck I have, no. It is hard to come up with something new and awesome that has some semblance of creativity week after week. I try not to tread over the obvious, stay inspired, and come from designs at my own angle, but it gets daunting, esp. when you compound this with working a 50 plus hour a week, energy-swallowing job (dare-I-say: career?), as well as living in a crazed metropolis. Maybe these are factors; maybe they are excuses. But I try, though sometimes fail.

The purpose of this series is to explore all facets of the format. Many a time people have requested to see me build a deck on the fly. showing the process from start to finish. This deck was an itch I wanted to scratch. And, unfortunately, with the amount of time games take, the revenge factor from weirdos, and the general variance of the format, I can’t always capture the deck’s at their finest. It’s good to show the hiccups, it’s humbling to have an idea not hit the ground running. I would rather do so than show a total lop-sided turbo win. I still haven’t been able to make a Zedruu deck worth its salt.

In any case, I am taking a hiatus from vids for right now, until I cobble together some new decks, some fresh inspiration, and potentially reformat how I do these vids. Expect something from me a month or so after Dark Ascension, though there doesn’t seem to be much in the set I would use. If anyone has any suggestions, real or mean-spirited, fire away.

Thanks for watching. Glad you had a change of heart, matt. And, start commenting you weirdos! The few times I log in to Modo anymore, people will randomly say encouraging things. It would validate my presence here more if people chimed in, if even to just be a hater.

  5. There is just a certain “grin factor” you get when you win games with a deck created with a theme that is unusual. I appreciate the vids and the effort to create them. I find that I’m checking my “who’s your daddy?” bookmark almost daily, if not. For suggestions: Mikaeus, the Unhallowed makes a pretty brutal braid/stax general since all your free recurring creatures now have undying as well, double up. Since you have stated that you never know what your going up against when you play 5C (progen/dream halls control is mine), I think i would be interesting to see your take on one. Whether these suggestions are worth the virtual reality they are typed on, is for you to decide. Thanks for another great series.

  6. Thanks for the comment. I have an aversion to 5-c because it has zero in the way of stipulations, limitations, etc. Obviously one could exploit all the grotequeries of the format to make a masterful combo deck, but, really, why bother? I don’t find this challenging at all. I had a mega-mana 5-c control deck with Child as general: I would get out Wake and Mana Reflection and just Legacy Weapon the shizz outta everything. It was fun, but it never felt challenging or compelling. Maybe I will delve into one day soon–my original plan was to do so at the end of my Five Colors of Friendship vids, but, alas, I got bored with the idea.

I like the idea of the new Mikaeus-very cool idea. Truly, this guy is gonna make for some gross decks, and really push the whole Melira loop combo idea. I don’t think Ascension adds too much to the format beyond kitsch (tribal this, tribal that). I really wanna use Quiet Speculation with some of the Flashback goods in some capacity. We shall see.

Until then, I must recoup, meditate, and plot my eventual reemergence.

  7. you played really well the last game! also love that you tune it down a notch sometimes and not only post game you own. gg
